One of the first things I did to prepare for drawing Hannahbell Hobb and Her Horrible Heads, was spend some time copying from a graphic inspiration: Le Petit Cirque, an early-1960s comic by the artist Fred, best known here for Philemon. The Fred originals, and my copies:
